Paul Warner has always been interested in both design and construction. He had a foot in both camps in school, earning Masters degrees in both Architecture and Construction Engineering and Management from the University of Michigan.
Always interested in improving the process of making buildings, Paul left SmithGroup in Detroit to work for a startup in San Francisco, consulting with project teams to help them manage their projects online. Not content with being outside the project team, however, led him to become a Project Manager at MKD where he focused on a range of project types, from interior fit-outs to large institutional projects.
Paul joined Michelle Kaufmann Designs as a Partner in 2004. In 2006, MKD purchased a production facility in Washington state, mkConstructs. Paul has since divided his time between the two, thinking as “Builder” and “Architect”, and playing a key role in developing a design/build process that makes it easy for people to go green.
About the Session…
As a principal in Michelle Kaufman Designs (MKD) and mkConstructs, MKD President Paul Warner will share some of MKD’s building strategies and philosophies and present his ideas on creating thoughtful, sustainable buildings in today’s environment. Paul’s unique perspective is a result of the unique combination of overseeing both an architectural design firm (MKD) and a modular manufacturing facility (mkConstructs).
mkConstructs is the first factory of its kind in the United States with a “prenewable” mission that blends prefabricated systems and renewable resources. Find out why the Washington Post said an mkd Glidehouse modular home was “one of the coolest features of the eye-opening show at the National Building Museum” and why USA Today says MKD homes have a “sleek and modern design… [with] cool, welcoming tones.” |
